Work experience

Work experience is an essential way for young people to get valuable insight into a job and make their first industry contacts.

We’ve worked with lots of different organisations and freelancers on work experience placements over the years including the V&A Museum, Time Out, BBC Studios and Curtis Brown.

Work experience runs online and on-site for 5-10 working days, in the summer and October half term. You can support between one and four young people!

What we ask from organisations for on-site work experience:

  • sign and adhere to our code of conduct
  • provide expenses if the placement is for five working days. We ask that anything longer is paid at general living wage
  • fill out a short risk assessment
  • send us your Employer’s Liability Insurance number
  • have an informal interview with the young person

What we ask from organisations for online work experience:

  • sign and adhere to our code of conduct
  • read our online safeguarding procedures
  • process a DBS
  • have an informal interview with the young person

Arts Emergency will be there to support the placement throughout and will provide a guidance pack on how it works.

If you are a mentor and can find work experience for your mentee through your own networks, that’s great! We will need the organisation to send us a risk assessment and their Employers Liability Insurance number.
